Luggage Shipping from Hotel to Hotel

Japan’s has an amazing mass transportation system but handling luggage as you travel is not always easy. Luckily there is a solution and that is to send some luggage to your next hotel or ryokan using Takyubin (pronounced Ta-Q-bin).

We recommend that you send your luggage from one major city to another one, like Tokyo to Kyoto and avoid using this service to send it to more remote areas. If you are going from Tokyo to Hakone and then on to Kyoto you can send your luggage to your hotel or ryokan in Kyoto and just take a day bag to Hakone.

We also recommend using the Takyubin service if you are traveling throughout Japan with large luggage. Most trains in Japan cannot accommodate for luggage larger than a carry-on size besides certain Shinkansen Bullet Train lines. More information can be found in the packing list.

How to Use

During check in tell the front desk staff that you want to send some luggage to your next destination then ask them when you need to send your luggage so it arrives on time at your next hotel or ryokan. They will hand you a form like the one below to fill out. If you do not understand something just ask the front desk staff as they are experts at this service. You will then pay for the service.

2 Recipient’s (hotel guest’s) phone number

3 Accommodation information
Please write the following information:
・Hotel name + “c/o (recipient’s name)”
・Hotel’s address

4 Recipient’s (hotel guest’s) name

Write information regarding the sender

Write in the same way as regular waybills.

Write usage details

5 Reservation date
Please write the date of the hotel reservation.

6 Parcel contents
Write details of the parcel contents.

7 Service
Please circle “宿泊施設.”

8 Scheduled return shipping date
Please write the scheduled date when parcels are to be dropped off at the hotel for the return trip.

Sign name

9 Signature
Please sign using the same name as the name written for the sender.

Sender receipt (6th sheet)

Specify the desired delivery date and time zone for the return trip (optional).

10 Desired delivery date
Please enter the desired delivery date (when applicable).

11 Desired delivery time zone
Please circle the desired time zone (when applicable).

Luggage Size and Weight Limits

Maximum size is the combined length, width and height (A+B+C) is
160cm (about 62 inches) and maximum weight is 25kg (55 lbs)

Receiving your Luggage

Present your receipt to the front desk staff at your new hotel or ryokan
